"The Cockatoo Run/Illawarra Flyer"

The "Cockatoo Run" usually travels every Sunday from Sydney Central to Moss Vale (via Wollongong and up the famous and spectacular "Mountain Pass Line" to Robertson and then Moss Vale).

As such you can enjoy a relaxing day's train travel from Sydney through the Royal National Park, cross the impressive Stanwell Park viaduct skirting the sea cliffs and beaches to Wollongong. Take in the steep ascent of the Illawarra Escarpment and the coastal rainforest - a climb of 600 metres in only 16 kilometres! 3801 Ltd has added an exciting new experience to this scenic journey. You can catch a bus from Robertson village out to the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk. The views are stunning and the bus returns passengers to the village for the return train journey.

If you are unable to make the full journey, Robertson Railway offers a fun loop train ride on the  Cockatoo Run  from Robertson Station to Moss Vale across the scenic high country and return. The train usually arrives at about 12.30pm at Robertson and departs a short while thereafter. It returns to Robertson Station around 3.15pm. Tickets can be bought for this trip at Robertson Station on  the day from 11am. The loop train trip costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. Family tickets are also available at a cost of $25.

Please note that the "Cockatoo Run" is usually hauled by a vintage diesel. Occasionally a steam loco will be used to haul the train but this occurs only a couple of times during the year. See the 3801Ltd website for details about times, costs etc www.3801limited.com.au

The next scheduled steam hauled trains is Sunday 18 April and Monday 25 April 2010.

The village has a wonderful old pub with an outside deck , a bowling club, cafes, antiques and old wares shops , the Old Cheese Factory complex and lots to see. The country market is held every second Sunday of the month. All these attractions are an easy stroll from the Station. There is a rainforest reserve close to the station which offers a journey into the rich forest past of the district. Just walking in the crisp and often misty mountain air is a joy.

So come up and see us sometime soon.
